Unknown fault code? Decode it with evidence.
When a cheap reader returns “unknown fault code”, the vehicle isn’t confused — the tool is. AutoGod AI reads the code in the context of your exact make, model and module, then reasons through the circuit until the real root cause is proven.
How to diagnose an unknown fault code
- 01
Capture the raw evidence
Type or paste the code exactly as the scanner shows it, plus freeze-frame data, fuel trims, live values and the conditions when the light came on. Unknown codes are usually manufacturer-specific — the surrounding data is what identifies them, not the code text.
- 02
Identify the code family
P0/B0/C0/U0 codes are generic; P1/B1/C1/U1 are manufacturer-defined and are the ones generic readers report as unknown. AutoGod maps the code against the make, model, year and control module that set it.
- 03
Run 13-layer fault analysis
Ask AutoGod reasons through the circuit, the sensor transfer function, the ECU's plausibility logic and the mechanical system behind the code, then ranks candidate root causes with an evidence strength score instead of a guess.
- 04
Prove the part before you buy it
Parts Cannon Protection™ refuses to bless a replacement until the evidence reaches VERIFIED. Each suspect part moves from NOT PROVEN through WEAK, SUPPORTING and STRONGLY SUPPORTED as your measurements come in.
- 05
Measure, don't assume
The Test Interpreter walks you through the exact voltage, resistance, pressure or scope check that separates the remaining causes — and reads your meter photo to log the result.
Don’t replace the part. Prove the part.
Most money lost to unknown codes is spent on parts that were never faulty. Parts Cannon Protection™ grades every suspect against the evidence you actually have, so a component is only condemned once the data supports it.
Common questions
What does 'unknown fault code' actually mean?
It means your scan tool has no definition stored for that code — almost always because the code is manufacturer-specific, from a non-engine module, or the tool's database is out of date. The vehicle knows exactly what it means; the reader doesn't.
Can I clear an unknown code?
You can, but the fault will return until the underlying condition is fixed. Clear codes only after recording freeze-frame data — that snapshot is often the most useful evidence you have.
Is it safe to keep driving?
A steady light usually means drive with care and diagnose soon. A flashing light, a temperature or oil warning, or any braking, steering or airbag code means stop safely and get it checked.
